All is paid and booked, and I land in Narita Airport in the afternoon of July 24th. I am going as a tourist so there really not that much planning that needs to be done, and the one that is mostly involves what to buy and where to go and wether or not bring an empty suitcase for all the anime merchandise. Normally I travel with one bag, not including my laptop case. So since I am traveling to an otaku Mecca the question is: do i want to bring an extra empty suitcase with me, or do i want to use it as an excuse to buy a Gundam Suitcase (Char custom, fuck yeah!!)? The mini-games on the MGS4 websites where amusing enough. The result will probobly occupy my desktop for pretty long period of time. I actually don’t look at my desktop too much, so I rarely change it, and considering this one is interactive – it will stay there for a while ^^. Now onto the desk: (more…)

As I was going through my “to buy” list for my upcoming trip to J-land, figuring out whether or not I want to buy one thing a ditch the other, or buy both and fuck the budget etc. etc. I caught myself noticing that a good deal of the planned items are anime DVDs. Moreover, some of them are DVDs of anime that has been licensed in region 1. So why would anyone in their right mind do something like that, especially since Japanese DVDs are significantly more expensive then their North American counterparts AND they don’t have subtitles? Looks like I’m the last one in on the topic. I’d say blame it on my work and Kojima, since there are only 24 hours in a day, and after about 2 days of not touching the bed sleep is no longer for pussies. (On a side note: yeap, the game is THE SHIT!!oneoneone!)
Give your own definition of an “otaku”. Do you consider yourself an
otaku [be honest, try to avoid hypocrisy]? What impressions do you
hold towards an otaku [positive/ negative/ ambivalent]? What issues/
insecurities do you perceive in them? Can you empathize with their
insecurities? Do you personally think it’s acceptable to be an otaku?
Do you think people should care about being labeled an otaku? Do you
think that they are a product of society?
I missed the first Round Robin topic, so I’m jumping the band wagon on this one: The Otaku. I actually do distinguish between two definitions of Otaku: the Japanese and the North American one. I won’t go to wiki to look it up exactly, but basically Japanese Otaku does not have to be about anime at all. Otaku is someone who is obsessed with whatever their hobby is. There are anime otaku, train otaku, military otaku and so on. The term usually carries negative connotations and implies that that whatever the otaku is obsessed over takes precedence over everything else: social life, work, relationships, basic hygiene (lol) etc. Into North America this term migrated via anime culture and its usage is restricted to it. Good day (or whatever you see outside).
I’m Agat and I’m also from Russia. Since meows had the idea of a kind of a collective blog, well, I decided to join. I guess I’ll be mostly posting rants and spoilers, so be ready :3
I know the moonspeak, I participate in some fansub activity (currently mostly russian, e.g. AniMa, although previously I’d been involved with mendoi, nanshi, ayu, conclave etc.), I really hate the russian anime fandom, I’m a bit of a bitch. For those of you who now Russian, here’s my lj. With that said, let’s get started.

Pete brought up an interesting point about Russian anime bloggers, or rather about the absence of them. Those few of us that do speak Russian as our first language still choose to blog in English. Im not sure what’s Pete’s reasoning behind not blogging in Russian, but mine is actually rather simple. And no, it has nothing to do with any kind of argument eventually ending in “you’re a dick and your mom is a slut” (which is two memes by the way). I am actually fine with that kind of course of discussion, they are rarely constructive, but hey, it’s fun to troll some trolls once in a while.
The deal is in something else. (more…)

I guess this is the welcome to the world of anime blogging for me. It is not exactly my first time of anime blogging in general, but it is the first time I’m actually attempting something like this in English. For those of you who can read Russian feel free to visit my livejournal as it has been my main hangout for the past couple of years and it is not likely to change anytime soon. Unfortunately i have no desire to do any kind of coherent anime blogging in Russian, thus I am here. I do have a somewhat weird writing style and 6 years of university in “humanities” did squat to improve it. (rather, the profs just got used to it ^^;)
You probably won’t see any episodic blogging here, as i will try to keep my squeeling in my lj or MAL. But i will write about all those old, and not so old anime that i think are the shit, and everybody else thinks are just shit. I have a “interesting” taste, so to speak. And with this I will conclude the introduction, as I am really not good at it.
