Couple of double rum&cokes and a pack of smokes, what else is there to make your day better?
Yes, it’s been a while since I wrote anything anime related. Honestly, I have not really watched anything either, since the season Tytania aired (whenever that was). Nothing really captured my attention that much. I meant, I did pick up studying Japanese, writing, drawing and so on, just because of that novel; but nothing else have affected me that much (I think that makes me officially obsessed). Makes me wonder if I’ve actually outgrown anime, or is it simply because my interests have shrunk. I still religiously watch Queen’s Blade, collect anime figurines, thugh the latter ones have been moved aside by my dollfie collecting hobbie. Oh well, blame it on figurine manufacturers, who did not make Tytania characters into figurines – now I have to get dollfies to make into them, and dollfies are significantly more expensive. Makes me kind of regret that I was not so obsessed over them when I was in Tokyo – would have spent all the money on more nerdy stuff, instead of regular girlish entertainment. ^^;
I am making myself pick up anime hobbies this season though. (right after I sober up) Hopefully it will work.

It seems to be the proper thing to to to start “resurrection” of the blog with the upcoming anime series. Since I seemingly have an obscure taste in anime, any given season offers maximum of 3 series that i would be even remotely interested in, and out of these 3 I will only actually watch one. Maybe two. This season is unfortunately not an exeption from that rule. So this time Meows is watching:
Sengoku BASARA – Based on the epic “chaotic kill-them-all” game by Capcom set in the Sengoku era in Japan. If you have not played the game – you have not lived. And if this anime will turn out to be even HALF of what the game is – it would be the most awesome series of the year. If not, well, it will still be worthy of your time. The remaining question is: will the animation quality be at par with game’s cutscenes.
Queen’s Blade – *claps her hands* Melona! Melona! *^_^* Successor to IkkiTousen in my books. It has been proven by the “british scientists” that looking at tits prolongs one’s life. Well, at least it works for men. Aaaand I’m going to go ahead and pretend I’m male. Either way, I do not expect much plot from this show, but the eyecandy looks promising.
Sadly those two wrap up the “I will watch” section. There are couple of shows that fall under “i might watch” and “I will read in other’s blogs” sections. Namely: 07-Ghost and Phantom. By the looks 07-Ghost reminds me of Cluster Edge for some reason, so i would give it a shot, as I actually did not mind Cluster Edge. And my interest in Phantom is based solely on the fact that way back when the game came out i did not bother to play it, so I am somewhat interested in it, but not enough to waste 20 min of my life a week on it.
And I am perfectly aware that in a month the entire anime internets would not talk about anything other then the new FMA, therefore a) there is really no need to watch it, b) I’m not that big of a fan of neither the manga, nor the first adaptation. so BLEH!

Or to be exact: what do you do when you come back from an unintentional hiatus during that one season when there is nothing to watch? Really, blogging Star Trek TNG is not exactly a thing to do. Well then, let the random bitching in english begin!

Still alive!!

It’s been almost a month since I came back and both suitcases are still sitting in the middle of my bedroom mostly unpacked. I did take out most of the anime stuff though and now I’m facing yet another dilemma: where am i going to put all that crap!! Figurines are currently taking up all existing shelving units (3 in total), tv bench (which is occupied also by printer, scanner, and a 4ft tall tower of empty boxes) most of my table and a good chunk of living room floor. and with a good number more arriving shortly, what’s an otaku to do?
Now, to the horror of most figurine collectors I actually like being able to touch and to “play” with most of my figurines (and yes, i do call them dolls). so naturally all of them get de-boxed right upon arrival and i’m not too keen on keeping them behind glass either. not to mention that anything glass and cats don’t go together very well. I do have couple of budget plans as to where to keep the figurines, along with the stash of anime magazines, manga, and countless boxes of ancient electronics. But I am curious, where do you guys keep your anime and figurine stash?
On the aside note, as my most expensive doll is making his way here, all of you who own Asian ball jointed dolls, where do they sit?

The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated. Well, not so greatly as I still have not unpacked, despite coming back two weeks ago.
I actually find it very hard to write about the trip to Japan simply because there was nothing there that I thinks deserves special attention. Tokyo was nothing surprising, Akihabara felt more like an average shopping district somewhat relevant to my interests, rather than the glorified anime Mecca. I’m either getting old, or I’ve been otaku for far too long; both are not out of the question either. Actually no, I’m lying, Yokohama’s Chinatown was kind of weird: touristy^2. Though I can’t pinpoint exactly what weirded me out the most. I did buy a giant plush meat bun though, now I need to remind myself that it’s a meat bun and not a poring ^___^.
Since I actually don’t have any impressions about the subject matter, here is my small guide to Aki: (more…)

NO, I have not died. And this is the proof. So, the Summer WF 2008:
I actually was a lazy bum and did not line up the night before like i planned to, so i ended up sitting in line two bridges and a park a way form the Tokyo Big Sight (that’s not counting the first “bridge”). See the picture for a better visual representation. But ironically it was not that bad, apart from me not wearing a long sleeve shirt and thus burning my arms/shoulders to a crisp.

Natsume Yuujinchou

My hopes for this season actually relied solely on this series, and right now I’m not sure if it let me down or not. On one hand the main character has much promising personality, on the other hand the “Freckles”* – the creeptastic talking maneki-neko is way to freaking annoying for a comic relief. Which, mind you, is unnecessary to begin with. As many people pointed out it does give off mushishi vibes, both due to the mushi/ayakashi central theme and the somewhat similar personalities of the main characters. But let’s just hope it does not turn out like Tactics. >_< And I do sincerely hope for the return of the cat-like spirit in the purple yakatta. But yea, it all comes down to this one series for the entire season. Not too bad, considering I do have quiet a few on hold, but still, I normally manage to fish out at least two watchable series a season ;_;
*Yea, Madara is a name of the bad guy form Naruto, and that’s all you get if you google it. But if you look up the direct translation it’s actually means “spots” or “speckles”. So I take it whatever his true form is it’s supposed to be pure white, and the red spots is a defect or something? Well, we’ll figure it out later on. (more…)

1: Have I got a story for you

First arc out of the six. Animated by studio 4C, though I don’t even need to say that. This arc actually consists of four different parts three of which are shown from the point of view of each of the kids who claim they saw Batman fight a weird guy and because of that where late.

Time to jump the bandwagon. It’s take two on the long painful subject of “Fansubs are evil”. I originally was going to focus on Scott’s article on Greg Ayres’ panel, but it got torn apart By Hinano and various other people, so there really is no need for me to nitpick on it. So I will focus on roughly two points: (more…)
